The technological progress of the past century has led to the emergence of integrated technologies such as those encompassed by the Internet of Things (IoT). Recently, IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) emerged as a first step to revolutionize the industrial sector, by taking advantage of modern technologies and capabilities such as: the interconnectivity of industrial devices, the usage of machine-to-machine communication (M2M), big data and machine learning in order to improve a company’s efficiency and operations reliability. At the same time, the concerns for quality management within these companies continues to remain a constant concern and while quality has also evolved in the past couple of years to match the requirements of Industry 4.0 enterprises, an unexplored direction is that of the relevance of quality frameworks in manufacturing and industrial enterprises. The present paper explores this research direction in order to help provide the guidelines for developing a quality framework for IIoT companies.
