The Arcan shear test is used together with the digital image correlation to study the shear stress-strain relationship for pine wood in the symmetry plane LR. The relationship of shearing perpendicular to the grain direction is shown by the straight line below the proportional limit and the nonlinear curve beyond it describing hardening up to the ultimate limit. Subsequent failure modes are shown during the load increase. Additionally, some results of the off-axis tension tests, as well as the uniaxial tension tests, with the mechanical and electric resistance strain gauges are presented to determine and compare the shear modulus from both methods of testing.
