Economic Analysis and Development Prospects of Green Methanol under the Background of Carbon Emission Reduction

With increasing attention to climate issues, the development of green energy has become a growing focus. Green methanol, as a potential clean energy source, can not only significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions but also utilize carbon dioxide as a raw material for methanol production. However, the current production of methanol is predominantly reliant on non-renewable fossil fuels, underscoring the need to assess the feasibility of commercializing green methanol production technologies. This study investigates the production processes of electrochemical methanol, biomass methanol, and methanol derived from coal and natural gas, analyzing the costs and environmental benefits of each technological pathway. The analysis indicates that while the cost of renewable energy- based methanol is currently higher than that of fossil fuel-based methanol, it offers substantial environmental benefits and considerable potential for cost reduction in the future. Therefore, renewable energy-based methanol production demonstrates significant prospects for development.
