This paper is part of a PHD dissertation aimed at optimising the efficiency of a water-cooled heat exchanger used in laboratory-scale waste plasma gasifiers. To optimise the design and evaluate the applicability of corrosion-resistant ceramic 3D printed materials, it is necessary to understand the current application of plasma gasification to municipal and medical waste disposal and destruction. This review of recent literature intends to create a reference point for optimisation of the heat exchanger component of the envisaged gasification system. Advanced manufacturing technologies may be the key which unlocks new applications for plasma gasification.
